Pin Point Accuracy with a Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM)

Standard Jig Boring Service uses a coordinate measuring machine (CMM) for measuring the physical geometrical characteristics of a machined part.

A probe is used to touch different spots on the part being measured. The machine then uses the X, Y and Z coordinates of each of these points to determine size and position. By precisely recording the X, Y, and Z coordinates of the target, points are generated which can then be analyzed via regression algorithms. The software then calculates the datum tolerance and determines the parts straightness, parallelism and true positioning creating a 3D model of the part.

The data is then used to generate test methods, run frequencies and quality documents to be used by the machine operators to make corrections in machine setup before starting a production run. During the run ambient thermal compensation data is used to ensure consistency throughout the machining process.

Finished parts are all subject to sample inspection, to ensure compliance with the high tolerances demanded by our customers. SJBS operates a culture of quality as an integral part of all manufacturing. The CMM ensures consistency between the machining process and operators while minimizing production delays.
